It’s not just the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team who are celebrating a second-place victory; the Industry Insights Race Team (IIRT – Industry Insights and Trend Tracker) has been named second in class overall for the race season in the Open series of the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) end of season awards.
The IIRT Porsche 944 S2 is pictured in the race bay at The Car Factory (TCF), a Leicester-based fully-refurbished luxury car venue for exclusive storage and events space and home to TCF Members' Club and The Dream Factory.
As Steve Thompson, Director, Industry Insights, Trend Tracker and The Car Factory, and IIRT driver of the 1985 Porsche 944 S2, explains, the Open series is not the usual category the team race in, so to receive recognition in the series is extra-special.
“We have enjoyed some fantastic racing in the CSCC Future and Modern Classics and to finish second in class overall for the season is the icing on the cake,” said Steve. “We were over the moon to finish first in class in May at the CSCC Coronation Race Meeting at Thruxton during an action-packed weekend of racing.”
IIRT’s recent racing achievements include finishing third in the Pirelli Ferrari Hill Climb/Sprint last season. “We’ve had a break from that in 22/23 and focused on circuit racing, said Steve. “Who knows what 23/24 holds for the team.”
Steve thanked the IIRT Sponsors: “the motorsport accountants, Harris & Co; watch collectors and fine jewellery experts, The Watch Boutique; and designer-inspired team mech magicians, DUB designs” for their continued support, and said the IIRT Partners have provided immense “super-fan” power by attending the races to cheer on the team and get hands-on in the paddock and the pits during the season.
“Thanks to IIRT’s Partners: Fix Auto, ADPS, Audatex, Carpenters, ERAC, National Windscreens, Pilkington and Synetiq,” said Steve, “and thanks to the IIRT Associate Partners, Nationwide Vehicle Assistance, Prism, IMO, Sherwin Williams, Junair and The Hail Network.”
At the CSCC awards, 177 members and guests helped celebrate the closing stages of the CSCC’s 20th anniversary season with guest speaker Jake Hill and the Club’s AGM the following day. “Congratulations to all our award winners,” said the CSCC. “Whilst we run series in 2023, not championships (therefore we have no official overall winners), we do present awards to winners that were not collected at each round, for car presentation, excellent driving standards and a plethora of other categories and reasons.”
“Racing is an absolute dream come true,” said Steve, who had “long since given up on that dream to race cars” but, two years in – with some challenging but rewarding weekends under his belt (bonnet?!), the team are looking ahead to 2024 “with the same energy, drive and enthusiasm that each of the Sponsors and Partners put into the businesses, week-after-week”.
